Dead Already... Are you?

On the fifth day of November, 2008, history had its wheels in another direction as a result of a man's dreams. In the face of oppositions, accusations and doubts, the platform of greatness beckoned - the dream of a black man in the famous white house; the hope of the minority becoming a cynosure. It was unheard of but it soon became registered in the history books. Barrack Obama became the president of the United States of America. And on that fateful day, he uttered these words, "while we breath, we hope and while we live, we dream".

Show me a dead man and I will show you a man who's resigned to hopelessness. Some people have killed themselves even though they are still alive. A life without faith and hope is dead even while he walks the streets of the community. For to live is to hope; to survive is to keep faith. Reminds of a story I read in my bible, about 4 lepers in a famine-stricken city. They were already outcasts in the city and so were locked outside the gates of the city. After perhaps months of famine without food and hope of survival, they asked themselves a pertinent question, "Why are we sitting here until we die?"

Beloved, let me ask you the same question... Why have you decided to sit with hopelessness and dine with depression? Why have you allowed thoughts of suicide and failure strip you of your glorious destiny? Because you have failed countless times before doesn't mean you will continue failing. That you have been disappointed severally, doesn't mean you stand no chance of a "happy ever after" life.

I was telling you about the lepers; guess what? They made a moved forward! This time into the camp of their own enemies. There, they met the biggest surprise of their lives; their enemies had left their camps leaving all their possessions. The lepers suddenly became the millionaires of their time. Dearly beloved, "to live is to hope; to survive is to make faith your closest ally".

    1. Staying down does nothing to a man other than making him an object to be trampled upon.

      Thank you Sis.

  5. Thanks o!!! thanks LDP. I just had this conversation with some people just tonite!
No matter how hopeless a person's situation may be, he/she just needs to look a little bit more, there exists another person with a more hopeless situation.

We need not die before we die!

    1. I tell you! If only we'd take a look around us and see.. we'll know our situations are but trivial to what some others are passing through. May we not be myopic in making decisions that affect our lives and destinies. Thank you!

Sometimes in life the challenge is staying motivated, inspired and hopeful. Master those and everything else is cake.

  7. Very timely post LDP. In fact, this post has answered one of my dreams(recent post)....When my friend and i refused to lay down and be killed, guns materialised for us to use in defence. Violent yes, but that single decision not to give up brought victory.
    Thank you Joseph!

  11. At first I had no idea who you were referring to until you mentioned the White House. 2008 seems like it was so long ago, but it really isn't.

You have no idea how this lifted up my spirit today. God bless you plenty for this. You're very right: when a person loses hope, they have nothing else to live for.

lol, lol, i am laughing not at the article written but that you have such a dead pan way of viewing things, "show me a dead man and I'll show you a man resigned to hopelessness." lol, lol, lol, what an analogy, quite an extreme left but i guess that's you point? I so want to argue that a dead man is dead hence is dead to use him as a point of reference is mute but i am too amused by the analogy.

It is only in the Western society that people seem unaware of the capacity of people of African decent/lineage. Having come from a country that has always been black governed this is no surprise to me and our capacity is infinite; there is no doubt for me of our greatness as a people, no bar we cannot volt, for I have seen it in all socio-economic status in my upbringing. The proproganda of "inferiority, lesser than, minoritism" just don't work on me. I was happy when the presidency of a man of African lineage occurred in western society, for African American I was crying for joy so that now (in my heart I was saying now my brothers and sisters I hope you get it, I hope you believe, understand and know your greatness.), may now they will know what we who grew up outside of the Western world know, that we are infinitely great, that we are unstoppable that we can accomplish any and everything and maybe, just maybe the internalization of the racist ideology that they were force fed through over 500 years of enslavement that now manifests itself as black on black crime would begin to diminish, that the hope would be insidious and spread through their DNA like while fire. One can only hope.

    Peace.....
    Thanks for the platform.

    1. Rhapsody,

I get where you're coming from. Do you know how many times I've thought about changing that statement the other way round? It should be, "show me a man resigned to hopelessness and I'll show you a dead man". I think it makes better sense of what I was trying to pass on... What do you think?

I agree with you o, Sis. We can only hope... In fact, Hope is a great treasure to the African child.

      Thank you once again.
