NO WAY AROUND IT!

How I wish...
My certificate should just be given to me as gift
That promotion would just come to me; just like that!
Marriage isn't this much work
Life's just a bed of roses...

In the twenty something years I've spent on this planet, I can beat my chest that I am not the only one that has thought along those lines up there. Yes, I am not weird. If you have thought along these lines at one time or the other, I am sure you're either nodding your head or smiling right now. Many a times we wish things came very easy while we just sit back, relax and watch them happen. Just imagine, would life be interesting if we're all in possession of a magical flask or ball that brings out every of our wishes? Wouldn't life be boring and perhaps not worth living?

Sadly, none of us is in possession of a magic ball. As they say, if wishes were horses, all men would ride. Living in a world of wishes without work, is like living in one's dreams without getting up. One day, one would find oneself being welcome to hell for doing nothing! Yes, wishes produces NOTHING without actions. Should you have beautiful wishes, be ready to take off your wishful cap once a while and use your hands. Verily I say unto you, in life, there is no way around HARD WORK! Even if you are lucky enough to have inherited wealth from your parents, I can assure you, it's soon gone if you don't work hard enough to keep it.

Someone said, "hard work beats talent when talents doesn't work hard"; true isn't it?

Hard work is a pill that helps check the headache of life's several challenges. One surest path to sustaining wealth, fame, affluence, influence, success or fulfillment is HARD WORK. There is no way around it, not even luck. Even when people want to help you, they'd be looking to see your track record of hard work, to be sure they are not investing in an empty venture. I tell you, one good choice you can make is that of hard work. Have you not heard; heaven helps those who help themselves, not those who sit around waiting only for manner to fall from the skies. Even the bible says, "no food for a lazy man". I can tell you confidently that God rewards hard work.

I formed an acronym for HARD, which I believe is not exhaustive but gives a representation of my thoughts around hard work.

H-Humility: We must humbly take pride in what we do. Don't you ever be ashamed of your work. With humility, seek to improve yourself either by learning from others or trying to bring the best out of yourself.
A-Attitude: Nothing can replace or substitute for a good attitude. You have it, you thrive; you don't have it, you lose! It is almost that simple.
R-Resilience: Hardly does anything in life come without opposition. You must be resilient to see your work pay off, in the face of ardent opposition.
D-Devotion: You only get better at what you devote yourself and your life to. Practice, they say, makes perfect. If you want to excel in life, then you must excel in practice.

Thanks for reading once again. Your thoughts are welcome.

  1. The last part of the acronoym is one that I tell people most about when it comes to achieving things through hard work. Devotion! One can't over-emphasize this, just like the others!

  3. I'm a believer in the work ethic. I agree with this post: Hardwork CAN outshine mere talent.

On the other hand, there is a difference between hardwork and fruitless struggle / suffering [=STRESS]. Just because one is having sleepless nights and sweating does not mean they are working hard. It could be misappropriated suffering.

I pray all our hardwork pays off.

    Bless you.

  15. Absolutely! If we must embark on a journey, or devote our life into something, then it must be a cause we're convinced is right for us; or at least one that'd do us good.
    Amin Jesu! Thank you :)

  17. Life is definitely not a bed of roses, most things require hard work and sacrifice to get to the top. God's grace is also helpful too.

  21. Hard work sure beats talent when talents doesn't work hard and there is surely no way around it. One just has to work hard to achieve the dream.

  22. Hardwork is the gap between dreaming and achieving o. Thanks dear.

  23. I really like the acronym for HARD, especially because it starts with "Humility." The most important piece here (to me) was this: "Hard work is a pill that helps check the headache of life's several challenges."

Just like you, I have certainly wished I could get "victory" over challenges without working hard, but it is a core value that enhances the quality of life we have.  Anything a person gets without hardwork will be taken for granted, and an example is when people spend money.  Those who work hard for their money tend not to throw it away carelessly, while those who made it through "wuru-wuru" or very little effort (as in, not even "mental effort"), tend to spend it like there is no tomorrow...Or maybe they are just un-wise (a.k.a "foolish").

Thanks for sharing this.  It has given me a different perspective on challenges.

  24. hmmmmmmm.....yeah, thought along those lines although I dare say though that life will not be boring if one were to get the things ones desires, I think this is a misconception people who are plagued with many struggles tell their selves in order to soothe the burden of life. It is the balm that allows them to go on, to look forward and to continuer to rise.

Lets face it, if things came easily life would be just as interesting as human beings are inventive, versatile and interestingly complex. There are people who as we say were born with a silver spoon in their mouth. They live a purposeful life.

Yes some of us are shaped by our struggles and we are the better for it however, that is not true for all who face adversities in life. That is because its about how they measure the world in comparison to their selves, worth and is imbedded in the character, which is greatly influence by how we see ourselves, our part in the world, our up bringing, culture, tradition and ethos. It has also to do with how well we are able to adapt, be flexible and roll with the punches i.e. to dust ourselves off and keep going in spite of, regardless of come what may. That tenacity is not inherent or specific to certain people on either side of the socio-economic ladder. To say that life would be boring is to limit human beings (whose limit only limited by their own thinking), the human spirit and the human capacity to move beyond the ordinary to accomplish the extraordinary. We all know people who have done extraordinary things, beaten insurmountable odds from either side of the spectrum (rich/poor).

Sometimes as when people help it is conditioned and weighted with expectations. We judge others based on how we think, how we see the world and how we feel things ought to be and in doing so can at times negate the very people they attempt to help. Are their opportunist sure there is in all lots of life, it is the ying and the yang of things. It would be wise of us to be cognisant of a few things, to help someone should be done because one chooses to freely and without strings, that what we view as productive may not be productive from another’s perspective, that to assist someone and announce it to the world by providing verbally a list of what you have done for whom and why appropriating the persons story is akin to spitting in that persons face leaving them with little dignity showing that the help provided was more about you and how you want to be perceived rather than helping someone in need, to give a hand up is to do so freely and without expectation and to help someone is to help them help their selves rather than assisting them into dependency.

    like ur definition of HARD

  29. Oh, I totally agree with you, Relentless... It takes wisdom to earn and use effectively. When the sweat of a man enters into his eyes, he spends with a clear vision. But for those who never had to sweat, there portion is soon gone. Humility has a huge role to play in the hardwork therapy. You have it, you wise; you don't have it, you lose. Thank you Sis.

  30. Rhapsody,

Thank you for that wonderful perspective but I tend to disagree to some extent. If all you have to do everyday as a human being is tap your finger for all you need to come through, I am so sure life would be boring. However, by that, I don't mean, life is interesting for those who work through struggles and pains to earn their living; it's certainly a challenge, and for some, even more than that.

Like Relentless said, it is what we work for that we value. The word value is an inherent trait. In this case, it stems from the fact that you know your sweat has gone into something and the output is what you have in your pocket. For one who is not lazy, this cycle of life is pretty interesting and not boring.

As for those born with silver spoons, I tell you, it's soon gone if they lack the wisdom to keep it. Money has wings and only dwells in the cage of the wise hard worker, not just a hustler. The distinction between wealth and riches is the wisdom behind work. You said and I quote, "To say that life would be boring is to limit human beings (whose limit
only limited by their own thinking), the human spirit and the human
capacity to move beyond the ordinary to accomplish the extraordinary." But, what use is the mind of man if there isn't anything to challenge it?

I was thinking along those lines... what do you think?
